Recap of Parent’s Weekend Games: Wins Over Williams

With parents, family, and friends flooding across the Trinity campus on Saturday, October 22nd, there was no shortage of competition and entertaining action as multiple games took place for the Bantams here in Hartford.

The day started with an intense NESCAC battle for the Trinity women’s soccer squad, as they took on the previous number one ranked NESCAC team and number 10 ranked team nationally, the Williams College Ephs. The Bants were coming off a two-game losing streak, which they used as fuel to drive them into this colossal matchup. Trinity scored first, just 20 minutes into the first half when junior Gabby Grattan took a penalty kick that hit the crossbar but then was able to quickly rebound it into the back of the net. Now, with Trinity fans cheering and soaring with great hope, Trinity struck again and put themselves on the board with their second goal just over three minutes into the second half. First-year Elena Lindonen scored off a corner kick from junior Sadie Rudolph, making the score 2-0 in favor of the Bants. Though Williams was able to get themselves on the board with just under 30 minutes remaining in the competition, it would not be enough to catch up to the furiously determined and hungry Bantams. The final score of the game was 2-1 in favor of the Bants.

The Williams College Ephs took yet another loss on Bantam turf this day, as the sole Bantam football loss from the 2021 season was avenged. Coming off a tight win against Middlebury the previous weekend, the Bantams were eager to kick-off again on their home field against the Ephs. Junior William Kirby put the Bantams on the scoreboard first, making the score 6-0 in favor of the Bantams. Williams followed, tying the game at six a piece. Then, just over 11 minutes into the second quarter, sophomore Matthew Jumes kicked a 27-yard field goal for the Bantams, putting them up 9-6 over the Ephs. First-year Tyler DiNapoli also got in on the scoring action as he took a 35-yard pass from senior quarterback Spencer Fetter into the endzone, giving Trinity a 16-6 lead. Williams responded with another touchdown, but it would be their final one. Trinity went on to dominate the rest of the game’s scoring as Jumes put the Bantams up yet another three points off with a field goal, and Devante Reid scored a touchdown off a 22-yard pass from Fetter. DiNapoli added an insurance touchdown for the Bantams, making the final score of the game a lopsided 32-13 in favor of the Bantams.

The competition was intense and hard fought, but this business trip for the Ephs to Hartford surely didn’t turn out as they had hoped. The Bants football and women’s soccer teams owned Parent’s Weekend with inspired and dominated play. Roll Bants
