Trinity Women’s Lacrosse continued a hot start to their 2017 season with wins on Friday march 10th vs. Colby, Thursday the 16th vs. Dickinson and Saturday the 22nd vs. Bates. Unfortunately, on Tuesday the 14th the team lost by one to Ithaca. Trinity remains ranked No.2 in the nation, and sports a 5-1 record, while remaining undefeated in the NESCAC.
The victory against Colby took place in Maine, and was nail bitingly close. The Bantams secured the victory with a goal by Abby Mclnerney ’18 28 seconds into double overtime. The score of the game was 8 to 7, and Kiley Coffey ’18 led the team with three goals. Trinity’s Goalie, Zoe Ferguson ’18, had a magnificent game highlighted by an even better overtime performance. In the first sudden death period, Ferguson made a clutch save on a free-position shot to kept things alive for the Bantams, which was a huge factor in the victory.
After this amazing victory, the Bantams travelled south to Nashville, Tennessee. There, they faced off against two tough opponents including Ithaca College and Dickinson College. The Bantams suffered an 11 to 10 loss to Ithaca, but rebounded with a 12-7 victory over Dickinson led by Clare Lyne ’17 who had six goals. Notably, Lyne also scored a halftime tie-breaking goal that gave the Bantams the momentum they needed to win.
After their visit to Tennessee, Trinity Lacrosse returned to Maine. They faced off against Bates and came out on top with a 9-5 victory. The Bantams had four players score multiple goals in this game including Nicole Stauffer ’17, and Juniors Allie Barrett ’18, Kiley Coffey ’18 and Grace O’Donnell ’18. Clara Nowlan ’18 and her fellow defense players took care of things on defense for the Bantams. Nowlan was responsible for three Bates turnovers that led to goals for the Bantams, and goalie Zoe Ferguson saved an impressive 11 of 16 shots.
The Bantams look to continue their great play in Hoboken, New Jersey at Stevens University this Wednesday.
