Dean of Students, Christopher Card informed the campus on Mar. 15, that during the previous weekend Cultural House supervisor and P.R.I.D.E. Coordinator in the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Calvin Johnson, Jr. had passed away in his sleep  while on an alternative spring break trip with Trinity students in New Orleans.
On campus he will be greatly missed, “he was a genuine, caring, and positive person who brought smiles to our faces,” the Trinity College Asian American Students’ organization wrote on their Facebook page.
Elhadji Mare ’18 reflected on the loss, speaking toward Johnson, “I remember when you took me to the hospital and stayed late to make sure I was okay. You showed me what true selflessness looks like.”
Johnson’s role on this campus was as a mentor and friend to a whole range of students.  He  was a lifelong resident of  Hartford and  graduated from Weaver High School and  attended classes at Trinity College.
The administration has made is clear that  Dean of Students Office, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Chaplain’s Office, and the Trinity College Counseling Center are all open and ready to support students in the wake of this loss.
