Trinity Remembers Longtime Post Office Manager Charles A. “Charlie” Tartt

Charles “Charlie” A. Tartt, Sr., longtime manager of the Trinity College post office, passed away on Jan. 28 at the age of 71, according to an email from Vice President for Library and Information Technology Services Kristen Eshleman Monday, Jan. 31. Charlie worked at Trinity for a total of 23 years.  

Born in Epes, Alabama, Charlie moved to Hartford, Connecticut in 1968. Prior to managing the Trinity College Post Office in 1999, he had worked at Colt’s Manufacturing. Those who knew Charlie characterized him as kind, uplifting, and caring in his role as manager of the Trinity College post-office. Reflecting on her time working under Charlie as a student, Sustainability Coordinator Rose Rodriguez ‘15 M’18 noted that, “it felt great to work in a space on campus where it felt like family and where you knew the people there would always remember you.” According to Human Resources Specialist Patricia Dinkins, Charlie made a lasting impact on the students who worked under him, many of whom would stay in contact with Charlie after graduation. Rodriguez expressed a similar sentiment: “even after graduating, I would swing by and chat once in a while… Now thinking back, I wish I took the time to visit more often. He will be terribly missed.”   

Amongst his colleagues, Charlie’s uplifting presence will be dearly remembered. Director of Print and Media Services Philip Duffy shared that Charlie was, “a kind and caring man, and he always had a positive attitude. People who worked with and for Charlie have been sharing stories of how ‘he helped me out once.’” Dinkins commented that to Charlie, “No one was a stranger, and his kindness was enormous. [He was] always helpful, humorous, and spiritually uplifting.” 

During his time at Trinity College, Charlie A. Tartt had not only been a member of the staff but also a member of the College’s community amongst colleagues and students who worked with him. Charlie had promoted a culture of kindness through his words and actions. As the long-time manager of the Trinity College post office, Charlie had given fond memories to the colleagues and students around him for the past 23 years.
