A Recap of Game Results on Saturday, October 8th

It was a day filled with challenging and cut-throat competition for Trinity athletics. On Saturday, October 8th, Bantam teams experienced intense close-cut competitions, with one-goal games and a tie. These close and nail-biting contests applied to most Trinity teams, except the Bantam football team—no, far from it.

Coming off a commanding 20-3 win versus the Amherst College Mammoths on Saturday, October 1st, the football squad took on the Hamilton College Continentals at home on October 8th. Looking to keep their winning streak alive, the Bantams came out hot and were able to shut out Hamilton with a commanding final score of 45-0. Senior quarterback Spencer Fetter had a standout game, throwing 321 yards and two touchdowns and, additionally, finishing the game 26-for-38 with no interceptions, thus earning him ‘Bantam of the Week’ honors. Junior running backs Will Kirby and Colin McCabe also played a vital role for the Bantams, combining for 127 rushing yards and four scores on the ground. On the defensive end, junior linebacker Luca de Lancellotti recorded an impressive five tackles.

The Trinity women’s and men’s soccer and field hockey teams, all took on NESCAC foe, the Bowdoin College Polar Bears, on Saturday the 8th in Hartford, Connecticut.

The men’s soccer team looked to clinch their first victory this past weekend but ultimately came up short in a close 1-0 loss to the Bowdoin College Polar Bears. The contest remained scoreless through the first 87 minutes of action; the lone, devastating Bowdoin goal, came with just under three minutes left in the game from Julian Juantorena, assisted by Carlton Steinberg. Junior keeper Bernardo Simoes stood tall in the net, recording six saves. The men’s soccer team returns to action on Saturday, October 15th, where they will face off against NESCAC foe, the Middlebury College Panthers.

The Trinity women’s soccer squad has still yet to record a loss and continued that streak versus the Polar Bears on Saturday, the 8th. First-year Alyssa Keane recorded her first career goal in the first half of the contest, putting the Bantams up 1-0. Unfortunately for the Bantams, the Polar Bears struck back just six and a half minutes into the second half, as Samaya Bernardo scored off a foul to knot the game at 1-1, which ended up being the final score. The Bantams look to continue their no-loss streak, and deliver a win, when they hit the field again in Middlebury, Vermont, to face off against the Middlebury Panthers on Saturday, October 15th.

The Bantam field hockey squad recorded only their second loss of the season versus the Polar Bears on October 8th by a one-goal deficit. The competition remained scoreless with back-and-forth action throughout the entirety of the first three-quarters of play. Georgie Coetzer put up the lone tally of the game for the Polar Bears with just 5:47 left in the fourth quarter, leaving the final score as 1-0 in favor of the Polar Bears. Like women’s and men’s soccer, the Bantam field hockey squad returns to play on Saturday, October 15th in Middlebury, Vermont, to battle the Panthers. Roll Bants!
