Men’s Lacrosse Victorious

While it was a close game, the Trinity College Men’s Lacrosse team fell to the Bowdoin Polar Bears 8-10 on Saturday Apr. 2 in their latest away game.
Trinity started off with a good lead at 2-1 after goals from Ben Knaus ’19 and tri-captain Seth Bird ’16. However, Bowdoin soon caught up with goals from Matthew Crowell, Clayton Wright and Shawn Daly. This would bring the Bears to a 4-2, a lead that they did not give up for the rest of the game. Despite another goal from Knaus to bring the game to 4-3, the Bears rallied for another three goals to end the half with a dominant 7-3 lead.
Both teams started the half trading goals, but the Bears would come out on top by maintaining a score of 10-5 in the third period. However, later in the period Trinity rallied for three goals, with two of them from Stefan Pappas ’17, bringing the score to 8-10 before the fourth period.
While the Bantams were determined to solidify their comeback, the game stopped there as the Bowdoin defense shut down the Bantams for the rest of the game. The defense made only eight turnovers, leaving Polar Bears goalie Peter Mumford just one goal to save. Bowdoin outplayed the Bantams statistically as well. While Trinity goalie Henry Coote ’16 was able to make 16 saves, it wasn’t enough to stop the Bears offense, who outshot the Bantams 43-31. The Bears also dominated with 29 ground balls and 15 faceoffs.
Trinity’s record is now 2-6, with a 1-4 record against NESCAC teams; five of those six losses are to nationally ranked teams. The Bantams will play again Wednesday, Apr. 6, at home against the Connecticut College Camels at 7 P.M.
