The Men’s Track and Field Team has been tearing up the track throughout April, in good form for the quickly approaching Championship meets. On Apr. 16 the team went to Connecticut College for the Silfen Invitational meet where they were able to grab a 3rd place overall finish out of 17 teams, which is phenomenal for Trinity’s small yet deeply talented roster. Alex Tomcho ’19, brought in a quarter of the teams total points. He sprinted in both the 100 and 200-meter dash, placing first in both with speedy times of 10.86 and 21.96 seconds for a total of 20 points. Geoffrey Bocobo ’16, also had a great presence for the men’s track team in both the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles. He placed 1st with a time of 15.30 in the 110- meter hurdles followed by a 3rd place finish in the challenging 400-meter hurdles. For long distance events, Kyle Larsson ’18 ran hard finishing 3rd in the 800 meter “dash.” Sean Dunn ’16 ran the lengthily 10,000-meter run coming in a respectable 2nd place with a time of 32:16.80. For the field events, Mark Hillsamer ’19 threw the javelin a distance of 184’7.25” for a 2nd place finish. Pole-vaulter Anthony Flores ’16 also placed for points coming in 6th.
The Women’s Track and Field Team also performed well, grabbing an 8th place finish at the Silfen Invitational. The leading point scorer for The Women’s Division was Captain Lily Talesnick ’16, who began her track and field career at Trinity after an injury kept her from continuing in volleyball. Talesnick threw shot put for a distance of 39’2.50” and discus for 105’10.75”. She finished in 2nd and 4th amassing a total of 13 points, amounting to a quarter team’s of the total points. For women’s sprints the star was Katie Tonyai ’17 who placed 4th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.95 and 5th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.96. In the 10,000-meter run captain Abigail Barrett ’16 came in 2nd with a quick time of 37:34:40.
Coming off a great performance in the previous week, the Men’s Track Team was able to again achieve a great overall place of 4th out of 12 teams on Apr. 23. At the Springfield Invitational, of course located at Springfield College, Alex Tomcho again ran phenomenally in both the 100 and 200-meter dash. He ran even faster then the previous weekend, placing first in both events with times of 10.84 and 21.71 respectively. Captain Geoffrey Bocobo also placed first in his 400-meter hurdles race with a time of 55.14. For the 110-meter hurdles, both Luke Mayer ’19 and Bassil Bacare ’18 collected points finishing in 3rd and 4th place with times of 15.39 and 15.81, respectively. For the distance events, Trinity made a great showing in the 1500-meter run. Joseph Ruggiero ’19 ran a time of 4:08.20 in the race to grab 1st place. Zachary Joachim ’19 also ran well placing in 3rd with a time of 4:11.56.
The Bantams women’s squad also did well, tying for 4th out of 14 teams. Tonyai ran very well in her events scoring a collective 16 points. She first ran the 100-meter dash coming in 2nd with a time of 12.46, which was right on par with her seedtime. Shortly after, she again ran for a second place finish in the 200-meter dash with a great time of 25.71. For the mid-distance events, Anna Barnes ’19 dominated, placing 1st in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:16.77. For the 1500-meter run, Caroline Sullivan ’19 and Briana Daley ’18 placed back to back. Sullivan grabbed a 3rd place finish with a time of 4:53.53 while Daley, with a time of 4:55.23, crossed the finish line just a few paces behind her. Overall, both the Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Teams performed exceptionally in the past two meets and are on the right path to continued success as the most competitive meets quickly approach.
