Amherst trumps Trinity in NESCAC basketball

Trinity Basketball had a tough time against Amherst this past weekend as the Men and Women’s team both fell 82-89 and 38-53 respectively.

On the Men’s side, Amherst jumped ahead quickly going on a 12-1 run to start the game.  Trinity bounced back and was able to keep the score close throughout the game, and closed the gap to just six points in the second half.  Jaquann Starks ’16 led the Bantams with 21 points, while Ed Ogundeko ’17 had another double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.  Once again the Trinity bench was a big factor contributing 25 points.  The loss bumps Trinity down to 5-1 in NESCAC competition where they are tied for first with Amherst.

For the women, turnovers were what plagued the team as Trinity gave up the ball 19 times during the game.  After only trailing by two points at the end of the first quarter, Amherst started to pull away in the second half.  Trinity’s Mackenzie Griffin ’16 led all players with 18 points while Sheena Landy ’17 notched 12 rebounds.  The loss puts the team at 9-7 with some tough opponents coming up, but they have their next four games at home.  They face St. Joseph next on Feb. 2.
