Alumni Spotlight: Sarah Vazquez ’19

Sarah Vazquez has been anything but idle since graduating in 2019. Following graduation, Sarah worked as a program coordinator for the Trinity/La MaMa Performing Arts study-away program. This program is in New York City and geared towards performing arts. It allowed Sarah to immerse herself in unique theater, dance, and performance communities throughout New York City.

Having studied away with the Trinity/La MaMa program herself, Sarah was able to help guide other Trinity students on similar paths as herself afterwards. “Working for La MaMa was actually a dream come true and it felt so full circle as I had attended the program in my junior year,” explained Sarah. “While I helped with the program on an administrative level, it never felt like a job because it was what I love to do.” 

At Trinity, Sarah was a first-generation college student. “It can be really hard as a first generation American and college student to feel as though you are truly accepted at a school like Trinity, but it’s crucial that underrepresented students know that they are worthy and belong,” she said.

Now, Sarah is working from her home in New York as a Human Resource Generalist at American International Group. Sarah described her transition from a college student to full-time employee as “pretty smooth.” To this point, she recalls that she was “ready for the next step by the time I graduated, so the transition felt organic. I also found that I had more time to myself after graduating because I had been so involved with extracurriculars when I was a student.”

After reflecting on her four years at Trinity, Sarah expressed that “college, especially when you go away, is a formative life event. These years are crucial to finding out who you are as a person, what you’re passionate about, and so much more.” However, more than anything, Sarah is thankful for the people she has met and encountered along the way: “The people I met at Trinity helped me learn more about myself and in turn helped me mature, preparing me for the real world.”
