Earlier this month, the Track team traveled to Rhode Island for the ECAC Division III Championships. They ended up finishing solidly in 24th place in a large field of competition that totaled over 45 teams. Alex Tomcho ’19 managed to place fourth in both the 60 and 200-meter dash with times of 7.00 and 22.19. Bantam middle-distance runner Kyle Larsson ’18 ran a fast 800 meter dash, finishing with a time of 1:55.01 (just four seconds shy of the first place finisher). Given the competitive nature of the meet, not many Trinity members managed to score, with Trinity collecting only 13 points total in comparison to top team Rowan’s 84. Both Larsson and Tomcho received ALL-ECAC honors for their performances.
Following this meet, Patrick Hoagland ’16 represented Trinity in Iowa for the NCAA Division III Championships. The co-captain participated in the 3,000 meter run, placing 14th overall with a time of 8:45.05. Even though he ran an incredible time, he fell short of receiving All-American recognition by 15 seconds. The previous year, Hoagland ran 8:18.68 to set the Trinity school record .80 seconds quicker than the previous time.
This past weekend, the team traveled to Wesleyan to begin the spring season. Tomcho grabbed first place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.42. Larsson also ran well, falling just shy of first place by .06 seconds with a time of 50.70 in the 400-meter dash. In the 800-meter dash, Hoagland swept the floor with the competition, running a time of 1:57.40 in the 800-meter run. In the 5000- meter run, Sean Dunn ’16 also placed first with a sub-16 minute time. In the hurdles, co-captain Geoffrey Bocobo ’16 vaulted over the first few hurdles and managed to snatch first place by a tenth of a second with a time of 15.45.
Once again, Trinity looks to transfer their winter momentum into spring season success.
