After losing its two previous matches, the Trinity Men’s Tennis team finished its weekend trip strong with a 6-3 victory over Brandeis University, which took place on Apr. 17 in Waltham, MA. The team made a statement by taking an early 3-0 lead after they shut down Brandeis’ doubles teams. First doubles, led by one of three senior captains Ford Traff ’16, and Rex Glickman ’18 won their match 8-5. Fellow captain Camden Smith ’16 and Carlos Ferreyros ’16 defeated their opponents 8-5. Third doubles, Rutendo Matingo ’17 and William Boyd ’17 finished off doubles with an 8-6 victory.
Glickman at one singles, Traff at two singles and Ferreyros at six singles all had crucial three setter victories which gave Trinity the boost it needed to take the 6-3 win. Glickman defeated his opponent 6-4, 3-6, and 6-3. Traff won his match 6-2 and 6-1, after dropping the first set 2-6. Ferreyros took the first set 6-4, losing the second 2-6, and closed it out with a 6-3 win in the third set. Resilience was key in this important win. Trinity looks to continue this trend on Wednesday Apr. 20, where it will face Connecticut College in New London.
