Trinity Wrestling had a recent victory over Rhode Island College on Feb. 13. With an overall record of 7-11, the Bantams have continuously improved as the season progresses. Trinity won key contests against Plymouth State and Western New England at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Duals Championship hosted by Bridgewater State.
While late in the season, the Bantams enjoyed success against Sullivan CC, Western New England (for a second time) and Daniel Webster College. This record does not include several impressive tournament performances, including a third place finish at the Ted Reese Invitational (out of eleven teams).
The squad of eighteen, consisting mostly of underclassmen, competes in almost every weight division, including heavyweight. The Bantams are captained by Lucian Cascino ’18 and Michael Lofrese ’16, who also plays lacrosse for the Bantams.
Key players to take note of this season are Cascino, who was third on the team in pins last year, Lofrese, who after a two year hiatus has returned to the wrestling team, and junior Andrew McCahil ’17, who promises many more impressive performances for the remainder of the season. The teams next match up will be on Mar. 11 at the NCAA DIII National Championships, far away in Cedar Rapids Iowa.
