On Sept. 24, Trinity College introduced its first-ever J-Term program at the Rome Campus, extending an invitation to students for a remarkable two-week immersive experience. Scheduled to run from Jan. 8 to Jan. 19, 2024, this program presents a transformative journey, uniting academic excellence with hands-on learning. The application deadline is Oct. 8, 2023.

Nestled on the Aventine Hill, Trinity’s Rome Campus offers a captivating setting with historic churches, serene monasteries, and breathtaking panoramas, immersing students in Rome’s rich history and culture. The J-Term program aims to provide students with a deep understanding of Rome, one of the world’s oldest cosmopolitan cities, through a blend of academic rigor and experiential learning. Trinity College, in collaboration with local partners, offers three engaging courses: Food & Culture, Italy’s Holocaust and The Politics of Magnificence (pending confirmation based on enrollment), allowing students to explore Rome’s cultural, historical, and political significance holistically.

This Rome Campus J-Term program is open to students across all academic years, from firstyear undergraduates to seniors. Regardless of the field of study, participants are guaranteed profound insights into Rome’s pivotal role in both global and local affairs within the framework of a contemporary urban setting. Each student is required to enroll in a 0.5 credit course from the aforementioned three courses, ensuring a focused and immersive experience.

The program costs $3,500 and includes tuition (equivalent to 0.5 Trinity credit), lodging with partial board (meals), a metro pass, access to extracurricular activities, dedicated staff support, and international safety and health insurance. However, it does not cover airfare, additional meals, passport fees (if applicable), or personal expenses. Trinity College is committed to accessibility and offers financial aid that covers tuition, accommodations, meals, air travel and other program expenses, ensuring an inclusive pricing structure for all students to fully engage in their educational journey.

With a limited program capacity of just 36 spots and a maximum of 12 students per course, admission is granted on a firstcome, first-served basis. Eligibility for this program is contingent upon students maintaining a GPA of 2.5 or higher and being at least 18 years old by the program’s commencement date. While the primary language of instruction is English, students will also have access to an Italian Language Lab and the opportunity to partake in social activities alongside local Italian students. Additionally, the program offers exciting extracurricular activities, including culinary adventures such as cooking classes (availability dependent on the chosen course) and guided tours to renowned museums and historical sites throughout Rome.

Established in 1970, Trinity College Rome Campus offers a remarkable educational experience in the heart of Rome. With a robust liberal arts curriculum, distinguished faculty, fieldwork, academic excursions, internships, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere, it’s a preferred choice among Trinity students. Lindsay Oliver, senior study away advisor, emphasized Trinity’s longstanding connection to Rome, stating, “Trinity’s Rome campus, 53 years old, has sent hundreds of students to study there.” With approximately 60 participants each semester from Trinity and other institutions nationwide, the Rome Campus nurtures intellectual growth and intercultural competency, preparing students for success in a globalized world.
