Trinity Football faced off against the Bates Bobcats on Jessee/Miller Field last Saturday, Sept. 4 for Trinity’s senior game. The team recognized 26 graduating seniors and fifth-year players.

In their previous match-up against the Bobcats, the Bantams left victorious in a 63-7 win for the most points recorded in the 2022 season. Alltime, Trinity owns a 40-7 record over Bates, so Saturday’s victory came as no surprise. This season, the Bantams have averaged more than double the points Bates has per game, scoring 38.50 compared to Bates’ 15.17. Following their matchup on Saturday, the Bantams have accumulated 288 points this season, pushing their average points-per-game to 41.14.

On Saturday, the Bantams amassed 524 total yards compared to the Bobcats 183. The Bantams totaled 379 passing yards, 145 rushing yards and converted on six of nine third downs. Their total and passing yards marked a season-high for Trinity, and their stockpile of 31 first downs set a season record as well. Trinity outscored Bates in every quarter, the first quarter being their strongest on paper with a 17-point margin. Heading into the second half, the Bantams were leading 31-0.

The weekend also hosted a pair of record breakers for the Bantams. Tyler DiNapoli ’26 became the 36th player in program history to obtain 1,000 rushing yards after the 68 he earned on Saturday. Graduate student Spencer Fetter also made program history, becoming the alltime leader for Trinity in career passing yards, passing former Green Bay Packers Quarterback and Trinity class of ’84 Joe Shield. Fetter is now an all-time leader in yards, touchdowns, completions, percentage, offense, and Quarterback Rating (QBR) in Trinity football history.

Trinity’s next game is away at Wesleyan University this Saturday, Nov. 11 at noon. The Bantams are 12-2 against the Cardinals, dating back to 2008. Most recently, Trinity defeated Wesleyan at home last season 31-14 in their last regular season game to bring home the NESCAC Championship.
