The Panhellenic Council has issued a campus-wide alert in an email with the subject line “GUYS STOP.” The message advises Trinity College Greek Life organizations to retire the “celebrity crush?” icebreaker. The new guideline is a result of an overwhelming number of responses to the icebreaker that exclusively cite Trinity Admissions Counselor Matthew Hyde. Out of both best practice and, reportedly, a touch of personal offense over being excluded, members of Trinity’s Executive Leadership Team urged the Panhellenic Council to step in. In an email to the council, the team referenced last year’s philanthropy scandal, in which two Greek organizations on campus dedicated their charity efforts to funding more Hyde-exclusive speaking events. They called the move “unprofessional” and “just flat-out kind of mean…I even wore my nice shirt today.”
