Letters to the Editor

On the Trinterview

This week we’re trying something new. Our editorial staff has had the idea for a while to reconsider how our opinion section operates. We truly adore both our community and staff contributors, but we understand that the campus wants to hear from people not named Talia, Leon or Alex every once in a while.

Thus, we’ve created the Trinterview (a name one of our editors-in-chief is still peeved she didn’t come up with). Every two weeks we’ll be inviting someone influential on campus to the Tripod office to sit for an hour long interview. We want to take a deep dive on Trinity’s culture and future with the people who are actually guiding campus life. We’re making an effort to go further than just quotes in news articles or even feature stories, we’re striving to hear the opinions Trinity community members are bringing to the table.

In this week’s Trinterview we talk to Maddi Petrow ’27 and Sriram Jetty ’28, Trinity’s SGA presidents. The two were an absolute treat to sit down with and gave an engaging, insightful interview. It seems we have student leaders who are both ready to innovate and have the skills to do so. I’m confident that under their leadership SGA will do more than just fund clubs, it will become a genuine player in student life on campus.

Some astute readers may be saying to themselves, isn’t this just the New York Times’ “The Interview”? They’d be largely correct; this idea is based off of the fantastic work David Marchese and Lulu Garcia-Navarro do each week for the Times. Their original idea was innovative and we’re shamelessly doing a Trinity-centered play on it. We have the privilege of having a specifically Bantam audience, and we hope to cater exactly to them with our guests.

Who will be our next Trinterview? Well, that could be up to you. While our editorial staff makes the ultimate decision on who we Trinterview (yes, I’m going to use it as a verb too), we’re actively seeking suggestions from the Trinity community for who we should talk to in the future. If you know somebody with a wealth of knowledge about this campus, somebody who has deeply held beliefs about it, somebody who is involved in campus life and extracurriculars, somebody who really cares about what we’re building here in Frog Hollow, they should be Trinterviewed.

We hope you’ll read this week’s Trinterview in print, and if it makes you curious, the full 7,000 word interview is on our website for those who are really, really big fans of SGA.
