On Tuesday, March 31, the Tripod sat down for an exclusive interview with rising senior Kayleigh Marie Smith ’27 about her plans for this summer. Smith has been very active on campus this school year, so it only felt fitting to learn about how the ‘girl who does it all’ spends her time off.

Smith recently shared on LinkedIn that she would be interning at Goldman Sachs, “following in [her] daddy’s footsteps.” She told the Tripod: “I don’t want people to think that I only got this job because of my familial connections. Just because every man in my family since 1910 has worked there doesn’t mean that I am a ‘nepo-baby.’ My dad is only the president of investment banking, so he really doesn’t have that much power when it comes to stupid stuff like interns.”

I asked how Smith became interested in this line of work as a Psychology major, “To be honest,” she responded, “I only applied because my parents were pissing me off, constantly asking about my summer plans. They did not like it when I told them I wanted to get tan in Nantucket, the Hamptons and the Cape for all of break. Like, can’t a girl just chill! I submitted my intern application, like, the day before it was due and I barely even knew what I was talking about, but it’s okay because Chat got me! I legit don’t understand why people don’t just use it for everything, cause it makes life, like, so so so much easier. I haven’t had to write a single thing for any class since first-year fall!

When asked about what she was excited for this summer, she replied with her ‘daily routine’ consisting of Pilates, a smoothie, going to the beach, the pool and finally out to dinner. I then specified what she was excited for regarding her internship, to which she answered: “Ummm, like I don’t know. I probably won’t even go into the office most days, cause like, I’m gonna spend most of my summer at our house on the Cape or Nantucket, so I won’t really have time to go into New York.”

The Tripod attempted to ask Smith more questions about her upcoming Goldman Sachs summer internship, but she consistently brought the conversation back to her sorority, Delta Nu, and her room decor plans for the coming semester. “Some of my sisters and I are getting a Crescent,” she shared, “And we are super excited to live together for our last year here at Camp Trin!”

Smith has been consistently described as “motivated, hardworking and driven,” traits that are all evident in reading this interview. When asked about closing remarks, Smith said: “I hope that every girl at Trinity feels seen in this, because we are all the same, spiritually and visually. Go Bants!”
