Bolstering an impressive roster of elite sackers, the newest addition to Trinity athletics has overtaken squash in viewership, funding and general vibes. The Trinity campus was introduced to the group only days ago through an Instagram reel that quickly circulated among students, establishing the Ensemble as a serious athletic prospect. While the founder of the team remains a mystery, students are already considering the group a pillar of the quad community. “It’s just so chill and positive to see a bunch of guys with their sack out on the lawn, pushing each other to be better,” said one student who stopped along the Long Walk to speak with the Tripod.
Early reactions suggest strong campus-wide support. The team’s “Support our Sacks” fundraiser nearly tripled its initial goal of $4 and allowed the team to acquire two hacky sacks, enough to last them the next five semesters. The campaign captured the attention of Gavin Viano, director of athletics at Trinity who made the decision to decrease both women’s and men’s squash 2026-2027 budgets in lieu of officially funding the sackers. This decision alarmed some students with super senior Christopher Hooper’ 25 commenting on the Hacky Sack Ensembles Instagram reel: “There’s no denying you’ve got some great sacks, but to mog squash by having them out on the quad like that? No respect.” Hooper was also concerned with the campus cultural impact of the group: “Plus with that name?! Those BP writers will get even lazier…”The Hacky Sack Ensemble has yet to respond to the criticism, with the Tripod’s in house sports experts identifying their publicity strategy as “outdoor and whimsymaxxing.”
