On Monday, Nov. 17, the Trinity baseball team stormed into the Tripod office in the basement of Jackson Hall during our regular meeting times when the door was left open for prospective future writers and their friends. Each member of the team was sporting a backwards cap with the Trinity baseball logo printed on it, which also happens to be the Tripod logo.
It is unusual for someone who was directly impacted by an event to write about it — this is called a conflict of interest, and is not up to our journalistic standards. However, since this event impacted the Tripod staff in its entirety, I felt it was necessary for me to go on the record to address it. The office now stands in disarray and ruin, which is especially disappointing after we made a deal with Bantam Fades for them to acquire the space, which was huge for our ever-dwindling budget. Maybe now we can print next semester.
The captain of the baseball team (last year’s NESCAC Woman of the Year winner) Guy Cox ’26 (meant to graduate last year, but failed Nutrition in his senior spring) approached me with a baseball bat in hand and demanded that the Tripod give up our storied logo so that the baseball team could wear their hats without any confusion. Naturally, I refused, as I have never been one to be intimidated by a man, and the team responded by knocking down the wall (which was actually quite a nice design choice and could hopefully lead to us changing our old darkroom to something more useful).Let me be clear; the Tripod will never yield to the baseball team. They can intimidate me, cause damage to our space or complain on YikYak, but they will never break our journalistic spirit. We will continue to serve you hard-hitting journalism, hot takes along with ice-cold ones and, of course, plenty of silly jokes and listicles in Bits & Pieces. Although Cox proceeded to serve me papers, the Tripod will use Executive Opinion and Design editor Alex Gervais ’27 as our lawyer, because he costs no money and does pretty well in his law courses. Be not afraid, Trinity public! We shall survive through this ordeal!
