On March 30, Cinestudio announced its upcoming series, “Film HisStory”, dedicated to male filmmakers and their long-overlooked contributions to the industry. The program is set to run during the last week of April and, in a Trinity first, is being financially supported by every academic department within the college, making its end date currently unknown. Organizers suggest the series could extend indefinitely, or until “we feel heard”, says Cinestudio’s dope-movie chairman, Alexander White. “Film HisStory” marks the second programming initiative by the theater this semester aimed at reflecting its audience base in the films it screens, the first being “All the Scream Movies: A White People in Horror Retrospective.”

According to the online event calendar, films featured in the series include “Scarface” (1983), “Drive” (2011), “Goodfellas” (1990), “Whiplash” (2014), and “Happy Feet” (2006). In addition to the 7 p.m. nightly screenings, the series includes accompanying panels and post-screening talkbacks. Scheduled events include “Emerging Voices: Martin Scorsese and the Mafia,” “Ambitious Men in Film and Cars,” and “The Antihero: Why Men Aren’t Allowed to Have Complicated Feelings Anymore.” Dope-Movie Chairman White spoke to the Tripod on his hopes for the series: “As an independent community theater, it’s important that we continue to uplift marginalized voices in the medium, even when they graduated from underdog industry institutions like NYU instead of USC.”

Film HisStory runs from April 27th until everyone runs out of money. Student admission is free with a Trinity ID or or a firm handshake with direct eye contact.
